Commodore Barry Assembly 1561
Our History
In 1970, Master Larry Roome petitioned the Supreme
Council to form a new Fourth Degree Assembly in the then 3rd
New Jersey District.
Commodore Barry Assembly was chartered on June 20,
1971. Our charter was signed
by Supreme Secretary ,Virgil Dechant (later to be Supreme Knight) and
Supreme Master, Daniel McCormick (a Past State Deputy of New Jersey).
The original charter had 3 Councils:
+
St. Francis of Assisi Council #2617 of Wanaque
+ Joseph
Toomey Council #6139 (later to be renamed Our Lady Queen of Peace) of
Hewitt
+ St.
Catherine of Bologna Council #6212 of Ringwood.
Father Francis Koch Council #6343 of Echo Lake was
added in 1972 and Immaculate Heart of Mary Council #10206 of Wayne was
added in 1989.
Our charter Faithful Navigator was Armand Casaleggio
PGK-FDD from St. Francis of Assisi.
Our charter Faithful Friar was Rev. Quintin Neyland,
OFM from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt.
In September 1971, an Assembly newsletter was created
and named “The Bosun’s Pipe”.
In April of 1972, 26 new Sir Knights joined Commodore
Barry at that year's Exemplification.
